1/21 @ 3PM: Criminal Justice Reform in Maryland – 2024

Maryland can remedy serious problems with our correctional system in 2024.

Homewood Friends will be hosting a community forum along with legislative action partners Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform and Interfaith Action for Human Rights. Join in the meeting room (or on Zoom) at 3 PM on Sunday, January 21st. Whether in-person or Zoom, we request that you register in advance. We thank everyone who can be part of this change-making event.

Correctional Ombudsman Bill:  An official watchdog would work in the Maryland Attorney General’s office to investigate complaints of prisoner assaults, poor medical care, lack of educational opportunities, and drug smuggling by correctional officers.

Solitary Confinement Bill (Mandela Act): Solitary confinement, or ‘restrictive housing,’ would be limited, in most cases, to 15 days. Those placed in solitary would be allowed to contest their confinement

Sponsors:  Homewood Friends Meeting, Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform (MAJR)  and Interfaith Action for Human Rights (IAHR), Stony Run Friends Meeting (Quaker)
