Black Lives Matter Vigils

Homewood Friends held a weekly Friday evening peace vigil in front of our meeting house starting when the Iraq War began in 2001.
Following the death of Freddie Gray, the vigil was refocused on Black Lives Matter. Two articles in Friends Journal, written by Homewood Friends members, describe these vigils.

Baltimore, The Time Is Now (Sarah Bur) recounts a startling incident she experienced during the 2015 Baltimore uprising and the peace vigil that occurred that week.
Friends, Peace and Justice in Baltimore (Kathryn Munnell) chronicles our experience with the weekly Homewood Friends vigils.

In January 2022, a decision was made to lay down the Friday vigils.  We now encourage Homewood Friends to join the monthly Rally for Black Lives vigils organized by the Baltimore Black Lives Matter Interfaith Coalition.  They typically occur on the 3rd Sundays of the month at 1:30 pm. For details about location go to BLMIC.org. Each month there is also a request for participants to provide some form of mutual aid.
