Our Library

Homewood Friends Meeting invites you to enjoy our library, located on the main floor of the Meetinghouse adjacent to the side entrance.

The Collection

The library supports the spiritual development of the Meeting by offering an assortment of materials about Quakerism and topics of interest to Quakers. Included in our collection:

  • Works about Quaker spirituality and history.
  • Writings and biographies of early Friends.
  • Contemporary works on peace, gender and sexuality, civil rights, and earthcare.
  • A children’s collection ranging from picture books to young adult materials.
  • A complete collection of Pendle Hill Pamphlets.
  • Recent issues of Friends Journal.
  • A small assortment of DVDs.

The Room

Our library is an inviting space for reading, quiet conversation, and contemplation. The room is also available for group meetings. Many Friends and attenders even observe silent worship in the library.

Borrowing

To check out a book, fill out the log book located on the table at the library entrance. When you return materials, place them in the container on the table and mark the date of return in the log book. For the consideration of fellow borrowers, we ask that you keep materials no longer than three weeks, though we do not issue fines for late returns.

Donations

We are always looking to expand our collection, and welcome your donations of relevant materials. Books should be in gently used condition or better, with intact binding and no written notes. Place your donations on the desk at the far corner of the library, with a note naming the donor.

Suggesting a Book

The Meeting allocates a budget to the library to purchase new books. If the Meeting is hosting a speaker or offering a book club, we try to obtain a copy of a book related to the program.

The Committee

If you wish to contribute to the stewardship of our library, consider joining our Library Committee. The committee meets on the third Sunday of each month, at 12:15 PM, in the library. For more information, contact Library Committee Clerk Jason Eshleman at misterjeshleman@gmail.com.
