Third Thursdays.
Support Gaza.
Stand with Palestine.
On the third Thursday of each month, join a day of fasting. Each of us will fast through the day and then come together at 6 PM at Homewood Friends Meeting (Charles Village area) for a small meal and time for sharing. The meal is 242 calories of lentils and rice, an estimate of average daily food intake for people in Gaza.
Not everyone fasts. You can fast all day or at a level appropriate for yourself. If fasting is not for you, you can also observe through your own practice, and show solidarity in other meaningful ways. Please join regardless. There will be Quakers attending but people of all faiths and non-faiths are invited, and you may come as a visitor, guest or observer as well. All are welcome.
RSVP here (for any of the next few months).
We encourage everyone to donate what they are able to the relief effort for Gaza. Here is a link to UNRWA’s donation page. UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency specifically setup to support Palestinian refugees and humanitarian needs. We have determined that they are well positioned to deliver aid to the people in Gaza. The UNRWA site allowed us to setup a page specifically for our fasting group so we can track our collective efforts. It’s under the name Tom Curtin, who is a part of Homewood Friends’ Spirit-Led Action Group for Palestine and Israel. Help us reach our goal!
Location for the 6 PM gathering:
Homewood Friends Meeting
3107 N. Charles St.
Baltimore, MD 21218
We meet in the basement dining room.
Palestinian rights are human rights. Active, engaged solidarity is a faith filled and/or heart filled response; it is a spark of light in the deep darkness that the world’s indifference has wrought upon the people of Gaza and the West Bank. May we be seeds of hope; may we be flourishing seeds of love; and may we always be seeds of a better today.
