No War On Iran – Weekly Peace Vigil

Homewood Friends decided at our March business meeting to start a peace vigil on Friday evenings, from 5-6 PM in front of the Meeting House along North Charles Street.  The theme for the vigil is: “War is not the Answer” and “Stop the War on Iran.” This vigil connects to a history of peace vigils in front of Homewood dating back to the two Iraq Wars.

Following the United States attack against Iran, de-escalation and diplomacy must be prioritized.

Congress has the sole power to authorize the use of military forces under Article I of the Constitution, not the President – any President. Congress must reassert its war powers by any means necessary as this war is quickly spreading across the region – with civilians, U.S. servicemembers, and our environment and economy paying the price.

Congress has not authorized this war of choice, despite our tax dollars paying for it. With the Pentagon confirming the war costs at least $1 billion per day, and now the Trump administration has requested $200 billion additional funding, legislators need to hear from constituents that War is Not the Answer and we will not pay for it.

The American people do not want another endless war in the Middle East. Diplomacy is still possible and necessary.

Urge your members of Congress to speak out forcefully against the war and reject more funding for this illegal war with Iran!
