Welcome to Homewood Friends Meeting’s Friends for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer Concerns Affinity Group!
We’re a gathering of LGBTQIA+ Friends who share a commitment to spiritual growth, community, and social justice. Homewood Friends has a long history of advocacy and inclusion. In 1985, we were the first church in Baltimore to hold same-gender unions, also standing in solidarity with those facing stigma and discrimination, particularly during the AIDS crisis. In 1990, we approved calling same-gender unions “marriage,” affirming our belief in the equality of all.
LGBTQIA+ Friends have long served at all levels of leadership and on all committees and teams at Homewood. We’re proud of our history and continue to work towards a more just and inclusive world.
Our affinity group meets several times a year at the meeting house or in each other’s homes for fellowship, to share meals, and to participate in events like Baltimore Pride and Baltimore Trans Pride. It is a joy each year that our meeting house is located at the start of the Baltimore Pride Parade, where we can open our doors as a comfort station as marchers assemble.
Whether you’re new to the Quaker way, or a lifelong Friend, we invite you to join us in creating a welcoming and affirming space for all.
